Retief Goosen - S Africa

Retief GoosenSouth African golfer, Reteif Goosen, arrived at the top level of golf from virtually nowhere. When he won the US Open in 2001 he was a rank outsider and only few knew his name. He had missed the cut at that tournament twice from three times of playing and then suddenly he struck and won one of the most prestigious tournaments in the world. The win also signalled to the world of golf that a truly world class golfer had arrived on the scene. He won the US Open again in 2004 and has had a further ten, top ten Major finishes. HIs record at the US Masters is excellent, the only surprise being is that he has not won. He has finished however in the top 3, four times in the last 7 years. He clearly is someone who can play the Augusta National Golf course better than most. He has won 20 tournaments either on the US PGA tour or the European tour and has featured prominently in the top ten of the world rankings. A dip in form has seen this ranking slip somewhat, he is currently at number 38. His US Masters record reads:

  • 1998 - Missed Cut.
  • 2000 - Tied 40th.
  • 2001 - Missed Cut.
  • 2002 - 2nd.
  • 2003 - Tied 13th.
  • 2004 - Tied 13th.
  • 2005 - Tied 3rd.
  • 2006 - Tied 3rd.
  • 2007 - Tied 2nd.
  • 2008 - Tied 17th.
