Sergio Garcia

US Masters Contenders 2012 - Sergio Garcia

The Spanish golfer, Sergio Garcia, is one of the best players in the world never to have won a Major championship and he goes to Augusta with the aim of ending that drought. Garcia has come through a slump in form over the last couple of years and looks to be getting back to somewhere near his brilliant best. 2012 will be a big year for Garcia as he looks to play his way back into the Ryder Cup team so a good performance in the Masters will be an important tournament for him.

Form

Sergio GarciaWidely regarded as the best of the top ranked players not to have a won a Major Championship. Sergio has been there or thereabouts in Majors regularly and has an excellent record of thirteen top ten finishes, but a winners cheque remains elusive. He was the leading Amateur here in 1999, but since turning professional he has missed the cut four times out of nine, including the last two years. His best finish to date was his Tied 4th, behind Phil Mickelson in 2004. Sergio however has retained his form for the most part of his career and has been a top ten player for several years. He slumped down the rankings in 2009 and 2010 but did start to climb back up the rankings in 2011 which will be something he wants to improve on in 2012.

His record at Augusta reads:

Betting Assessment

One of the great players in the world, but his performances at Augusta can only be described as disappointing. He has missed the cut three times in the last four seasons and on that form he does not inspire betting confidence. His form so far this year has not suggested that he is at his best and he will need to be if he is to be a serious challenger. His odds of around 25/1 are probably fair, but only just. He is the sort of player to back in play.
